STIRRING CALL

APPEAL TO CZECHS “

RALLY TO THE STANDARD

STAMP OUT NAZISM

(United Press. Assn—Elec. Tel. Copyright)

LONDON, Sept. 20 Introduced as the second President of the Czecho-Slovakian Republic, Dr. Edouard Benes broadcast from the 8.8. C. last night a stirring call to his countrymen to rally to their standard and help to stamp out Nazism. He said the mad barbarism abroad in Europe showed that the Nazi leaders aware that their regime was ending. Dr. Benes called on Czechs to arise in the old frontiers. He said Czech soldiers were rallying to fight with the allied armies whose aircraft would fly over Czech towns giving encouragement and assistance. “Do not submit,” he added. “Hold fast to the flag. At this moment we are here and you are there in an open fight with the German Nazis against whom we abroad have declared war in the name of the Czecho-Slovak nation. The war will not cease until the Nazi regime is destroyed. “Will Pay Dearly For It.” “Let us pledge ourselves that from this day we shall each of us stand unshakable and uncompromising in the daily struggle against a criminal regime and against an enemy who has defiled our holy Hradschin and who will pay dearly for it. Now let us go forward united in our struggle for a free Czecho-Slovakia in a free Europe.”

The Hradschin is the ancient castle of the kings of Bohemia in Prague. It was used as the official residence of the President.
