TE RAPA TRACKS

ATTRACTIVE SCHOOLING LITTLE BRITON OVER OOURTRY BRITISH SOVEREIGN-GAPPY (By “Martian") The flags were well out on the course proper at Te Rapa this morning when a restricted programme of fast work was observed. The going was much improved and conditions generally were pleasant. An interesting feature of the work w*s the schooling of horses over the country and schooling hurdles. Rosemae (Conroy) and Mio Generale (O. Mclnally) were associated over six furlongs in 1.25, their first halfmile being run in 54 l-ss. Both shaped encouragingly. Calorie Ensor; was clear of Australian Star (Brown; over the deciding stages of five furlongs in 1.8 1-5, the first half-mile in 54 4s. Calorie, a good track workers, executed her work in solid style and may make amends in due course.

The best figures over a sprint distance were registered by N'gawiri (Enscr), who got to the end of five furlongs in 1.7. She ran her first three furlongs in 37 3-5 s and the half-mile in 52 4-ss. Ngawiri is bearing a robust appearance and should show to advantage when called upon to race. Mio Fratollo (Amunsden) went once round in 2.1945. Gasacre (Brown) and Diversity (Ensor) traversed half-a-mile in 53 4-ss. An Attractive Bchool British Sovereign (Gilmer) and Cappy (Brady) were companions in an attractive display over four Schooling hurdles. They kept together throughout and both impressed. Gappy’s exhibition was encouraging and interest will attach to his progress. Young Paddon (Sharkey) gave & dashing exhibition over two pony fences along the back. Little Briton (Sharkey) was sent over a round of the steeplechase course, jumping off at the board fence and continuing over the brush by the seven furlongs, the sod wall, the brush by the three furlong peg and the 60d wall entering the straight. Little Briton is looking in capital order and will bear watching when produced again. N. R. McKenzie will leave on Priday evening to fulfill riding engagements at the Marton meeting, his mounts including Homily, Portal and Uvedale. A. Gilmer will also be making the trip.
