Racing In Germany According to a shortwave report heard in Hamilton yesterday racing programmes are still being conducted in Germany. At the Stud St. Wave (St. Amans from the Soult mare Heat Wave) is standing the season at Eureka under the Government subsidised remount scheme. Form Disappointing According to Australian advice Moorsotis, whose form on the other side has been disappointing, is to be returned to New Zealand shortly. Susan’s Showing After appearing to meet with a check early in the running of the New Lynn Handicap on the latter day at Avondale, Susan was finishing on resolutely to account for all hut the placed division and a lihe throjigh that form would suggest early amends. Hunto Succeeds The Hunting Song colt Hunto put up a solid performance to open his account at Avondale and the vigorous handling of H. N. Wiggins assisted appreciably in his success. Always handily placed in the running he came through at the distance to score a merited success. Bronze Moth Improves Improved by his outing on the first day Bronze Moth stayed on well to win the Spring Handicap on Monday at Avondale. Jumping out smartly as on the first day he was soon in the lead with Maxam and in the straight came away to score with something in reserve. Now that the Bronze Eagle representative has struck form he should go on to further achievement. Was Finishing On Queen City was finishing on over the concluding stages of the Nursery Handicap at Avondale and the daughter Of Iliad gave the impression that she should be soon heard of among the successful two-year-olds in the months ahead. The long Avondale straight provides an excellent test and Queen City came through it with ilyinig colours. Fils De Vaals Finishing on from well back Fils de Vaals put up a solid performance in the Avondale Guineas to account for all hut the favourite Beaulivre and run him to a length. The three-year-old son of Vaals gives the impression that he will do well in the present term and certainly any improvement on Monday's running will see him prominently engaged in handicap ranks this season. First of Stock to Win It is rarely that W. J. Broughton steers home a winner at such remunerative odds as was the case on Monday, when Payette • won the Nursery Handicap at winning odds of over half-a-century. Payette, who by the way is the first of Autopay’s stock to score, showed brilliance out of the barrier and though she hung out a little on negotiating the home bend she lasted sufficiently long to withstand the determined challenge of her stablemate Kentucky, who was confidently supported on either machine. Attractive Type The Beau Pere colt, Beau Leon, who races in the colours of the Te Awamutu sportsman, Mr E. H. Cucksey, shaped in encouraging style among the juveniles on the first day at Avondale and his display withal held promise of early improvement. It was the manner in which he was finishing on that impressed and he will command an optimistic following Hie next time he is produced. ll© is a half-brother to Galilee, a useful performer for Mr liicksey, her successes including the Welcome Stakes, Royal Stakes, Avondale Stakes, and several good handicap performances last season including the Franklin Cup in record time.
Sly Fox Wins Well As the result of his good form at Wanganui recently Sly Fox was made a short-priced favourite for the Plumpton Handicap on Monday and lie put up a fine performance to win from King Rey and the improving Airarn. Capably handled by T. Green, he 'was always in a handy position on the rails and when asked for an extra effort lie came through at the distance to score convincingly. Sly Fox appears to be better now than at any previous stage in his career and should go on to further achievement. Glen Connell Prior to the Avondale meeting nothing had been working better on the tracks at Takanini than Glen Connell and his performances on either day of the Avondale fixture indicated that lie should not be long.in opening his winning account. Despite the quality of his preparation he was at good odds on the place machine on both days. With the early speed he possesses he should be suited by a turning track and will bear watching on the country circuit. Gadger Disappoints Cadger was strongly supported in his hurdles engagement on the latter day at Avondale but he failed to Hatter the hopes of his supporters in the deciding stages although he was finishing on in the straight to be right up fourth. Racing. however, should prove beneficial to Gadger, who may be seen to better advantage the next time he is produced. Trainer’s Success The Te Rapa trainer, A. Winder, has commenced the season auspiciously and on the latter day of the recent Avondale meeting two of his representatives in Mio Lume and Hunto saluted the judge, bringing the stable earnings for the season so far to £845 and a trophy valued at £lO. Of this amount Gaine's Choice, a winner at the Pakuranga Hunt and at New Plymouth, accounted for £2lO and the trophy, Hum-a-Song, a winner on either day at New Plymouth, £IOO, Susan, who was also a winner at New Plymouth, £IOU, Mio Lume and Hunto, Avondale winners, £175 and £145 respectively, May Song £3O and Prince Acre £25. Patiently Handled Mio Lume was patiently handled to win the Grey Lynn Hurdles on the latter day at Avondale and the splendid condition in which he was produced was a big factor in his achievement. Racing out of the straint he was lying third behind the pacemakers Bisquit and Adsum hut was then steadied and did not commence to move through until three furlongs from home. Once over the last fence he went away wearing down Bisquit and scoring a convincing success. Mio Lume was a useful performer last season and a line through his showing on Monday would indicate that he will prove a remunerative proposition again this term.
