TEMPERANCE MEETING
FIRST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED The first birthday of the Frankton Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held in St. James’ Church parlour recently. There was a large gathering of friends from the various branches as far south as Wanganui. A hearty welcome was extended to all by the president, Mrs Bartlett. Mrs Peace was nominated as delegate to the Convention. The Rev. G. C. Reay gave a most interesting and inspiring address on the “Promises of Jesus Christ, and His near return.’’ Mrs Reay charmingly rendered two vocal solos, and Mrs Bradley was the winner of an amusing competition. Afternoon tea was served, and at the “bring and buy” tables brisk business was done. Members of the visiting branches expressed their thanks for a delightful afternoon and the meeting closed with the benediction.
