ITALIAN AMBASSADOR
A SIGNIFICANT APPOINTMENT FRIENDSHIP WITH BRITAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Sept. 18 Signor Giuseppe Bastianini, Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs, who has been appointed Ambassador to London, replaces Count Dino Grandi, who was* recently appointed Minister of Justice. The Rome correspondent of the New York Times says Signor Bastianini’s appointment is rcigarded as the clearest indication not only of Italy’s determination to remain neutral, but also to remain friendly with Britain. The Herald Tribune’s correspondent says it is significant that Signor Bastianini was Ambassador to Poland for four years. The appointment indicates that there is no sympathy in Italy for the latest act of aggression. No doubt Italy is apprehensive of Russia's westward drive carrying with it the possibility of a rebirth of the dream of a Pan-Slav Balkans bloc.
