RECRUITING IN WAIKATO MEDICAL TESTS PROCEEDING HIGH PERCENTAGE OF PASSES With the 1000 mark passed last week-end. the No. 4 Area. Northern Military District's contribution to tiie special force being raised by the Government for service at home or overseas continue to grow rapidly. Last night the figure stood at 109*2. an increase of 49 since yesterday morning and it. was expected that the total would reach 1100 before the end ot the day. The examination of recruits by the medical boards is proceeding satisfactorily. Fourteen doctors and four dentists were engaged at the Drill Hall, Hamilton this morning attending to the recruits as they came forward. Queues of young men. displaying excellent physique, formed about nine o’clock and throughout the day the military and medical authorities were constantly employed. The procedure of examining the men continued at an even pace, the organisation 'being excellent. Hamilton and Te Kuitl, the two centres, contributed most recruits, the remainder being made up by the Taumanunui, Te Awamutu and Huntly offices. Diatrlot Enlistments Following are the total enlistments at the five recruiting offices:— Hamiltorf: 225 examined; 150 fit; 4 8 temporarily unfit; 27 permanently unfit. Te Kuiti: 110 examined; 79 fit; 10 temporarily unfit; 21 permanently unfit. Taumarunui: 19 examined; 9 fit; 4 temporarily unfit; 6 permanently unfit. Te Awamutu: 51 examined; 32 fit; 13 temporarily unfit; 6 permanently unfit. Huntly: 35 examined; 24 fit; 5 temporarily unfit; 6 permanently unfit. Total numbers examined. 440; 294 fit; 80 temporarily unfit; 66 permanently unfit. So far the result of the medical examination is considered most satisfactory, a high percentage having been found fit for active service. Among the many workers behind the scenes in the present campaign Is a committee of women which provides moaning and afternoon tea for the doetors and military 6taff. The w-ork of this committee is very much appreciated by the authorities. CAMP AT TE RAPA RACECOURSE NOT REQUIRED SHOW ASSOCIATION’S OPFER Although arrangements were made previously by the Army Department for obtaining the use of the Te Rapa racecourse from the Waikato Racing Club for a site for a military camp, it has now’ been found that the extra accommodation will not be required. The secretary of the Club, Mr E. H. O’Meara, has been notified to this effect. The Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association informed the department that it would be willing to place the Claudeiands show’grounds at its disposal if the grounds were required for a camp. The offer .from the association was much appreciated by the authorities, who stated that the area would not be required at present. RUGBY UNION OPPKR At a meeting of the Cambridge Rugby Sub-union management committee on Monday night it was decided to offer the services of the body to the Mayor and Borough Council in any way needed, for the duration of the war.
