Rhodes Scholarships With reference to the recent discussion of the position of Rhodes Scholars in regard to military service, the University of New Zealand advises that definite cabled instruction has been received that the trustees will approve the suspension of any scholarship during the holders’ war service. The trustees, it added, will permit the resumption of the scholarship when that service is completed. Territorial Air Force "The rates of pay for the Territorial Air Force are exactly the same as those for the regular Air Force," said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, when replying in the House of Representatives, today to an urgent question asked by the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates (Opposition—Kaipara). The Minister added that arrangements were made to pay members of the Territorial Air Force, which was mobilised on September 5, on the same dates as payments were made to members of the regular Air Force. These were September 15 and at the end of the month. Native Marriages An important clause in the Native Purposes Bill, which was introduced i in the House of Representatives last night, authorises the issue of regulations providing that notice shall be given of the intended marriage between natives proposing to marry in the presence of an officiating minister under the Marriage Act. The regulations may also provide for the issue of a marriage certificate in accordance with the notice, and that no marriage shall be celebrated by an officiating minister until such a certificate is issued.
