SPECIAL CAMPAIGN

PREBBYTCRIAN MISSIONS During the present month a campaign in connection with the mission schemes of the Presbyterian Church will be conducted throughout the Waikato Presbytery. Every charge will be visited and the claims of missions placed before the congregations. The campaign was opened yesterday, the visiting mi6sioners being the Revs. D. N. Mac Diarmid. and J. M. McKenzie, director and assistant director oi missions, respectively, and the Rev. Angus MacKenzie, of the Maori mission staff. Mr Mac Diarmid conducted the service at St. Andrew s Church in the morning and gave a most interesting address dealing with the work of the missionaries in India and China, which fields he had recently visited, lie paid glowing tributes to the European /ulssion&ries and their native assistants. Referring to China he stated that the war had done much to commend Cnristiauity to the masses, who were impressed by the heroic and selfsacrificing efforts of the mission staffs to minister to their physical an<l spiritual needs, olLen at considerable personal risk. In India opportunities for the expansion oi the work were offering m all directions, and the urgent need in both fields was for more workers. The speaker said there was a disposition in some quarters to regard as wasteful money expended on missions, nut the results he had seen more than justified the expenditure involved.
