TECHNICAL AGAIN
HOOPER CUP HOCKEY THREE COMPETITIONS WON CONCLUDING GAMES PLAYED With the final games in the Hooper Cup competition completed on Saturday tho hockey season in Hamilton was brought to a successful concle • sion. Old Technicals again showed its superiority by annexing the Hooper Cup, making its third success this season, tbe others being in the Killip Memorial Shield series and the seven-a-side tournament. Technical went through the major competition without experiencing a loss, while it met with only one defeat in the Hooper Gup contest.
Until Saturday all four teams in the cup series were equal on points. Colts and Kaipaki played a drawn game', three all. The issue was then between Technical and Old Boys and the former had no difficulty in winning by nine goals to nil, thus securing the trophy. GREAT VICTORY TECHNICAL BEATS OLD BOYS WIDE MARGIN IN CUP FINAL Old Technicals added another success to its long list of victories this season by defeating Old Boys by the wide margin of nine goals to mil. It was a great finish to its highly successful season and th© team is to be congratulated on the manner in which it staved off so many hot challenges and maintained such a high standard of hockey. Early in the encounter Technical had a substantial lead and it was obvious in the later stages that Old Boys was not taking the encounter seriously. It was unfortunate that the loser could not field a full team and this, no doubt, contributed to its lack of success. The teams were:— Old Boys.—Sutherland, Broad, ClifJord, Davies, Oliver, Jacka, West, Chard. Old Technicals.—Puck, Bowler, Taylor, Wilson, Snell, Sage, Sage, Powdrill, Floyd, Forster, Clark. Old Boys experienced difficulty in coping with the hayd thrusts by Technical, which found plenty of gaps in the depleted team of its opponent. The forwards, did most of the work for Technical, the backs being called upon to defend on very few occasions. Several times Old Boys re-arranged its side but it was obvious that it could not cope wtih the strong Technical front division and towards the end of the game, goals were being scored in quick succession. Davies and West were the spearhead of the Old Boys attack but they could do little against such overwhelming odds and on no occasion did the team make any effective sorties on Technical territory. On the other hand Technical had every opportunity to work as a team and the forwards, under the conditions, combined magnificently. The scorers for Technical were: Snell (2), V. Sage (1), W. Sage (3), Powdrill (2), and Floyd (1).
