MARLENE DIETRICH
HOPES FOR COME-BACK INCOME TAX TROUBLES Marlene Dietrich recently had high hopes for an early “come-back.” Now comes news from Paris that the French film she planned may not after all be made. Meanwhile, she is involved in misunderstandings with- the American income-tax people, whose inquisition she thought would not be so embarrassing since she is now an American citizen. Certain developments are said to be afoot which may put her on the front pages again sensationally. She is not likely, however, to accept Hollywood offers unless her price is paid, for, although not by any moans in need, she is not as rich as many suppose. In spite of her natural flair for keeping money, it, lias cost her an enormously large fortune to keep up the Hollywood legend of being the screen’s most exotically and exquisitely dressed glamour girl.
If she had been a knook-about comedienne she could have been worth twice as m.uch on less than half her salary as a glamour queen.
