LIFE IN HOLLYWOOD
AUSTRALIANS’ EXPERIENCES CONTACTS WITH MUSICIANS Lauri and Dorothy Kennedy are finding life in Hollywood interesting according to letters received by friends in Sydney. Here are some extracts from the last epistle to arrive in Sydney. “We have discovered that son David has a most beautiful baritone voice and is most likely heading for the movies. He is studying with de Segurola (Deanna Durbin's teacher), who is most enthusiastic about his future career. “We gave a big reception at our house for Albert Coates, the English guest-conductor, during the Hollywood Bowl concert season. There was a very representative crowd of guests, including executives of both the musical and movie world. Among them was Melitza Korjus—star of ‘The Great Waltz.’ “The latest arrival to take up residence here is Josef Hofmann, the pianist. He and Heifetz, the violinist, have their homes in the same vicinity.” _____
