RATIONING OF PETROL
DESIRE OF THE GOVERNMENT LARGEST SUPPLY POSSIBLE (■y Telerrspn.—rre*« Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday. Though general dissatisfaction has been expressed by members of the Wellington Automobile Association with the fiat rate allocation of 10 gallons of petrol a month Toe private cars, said the president, Mr E. A. Batt, today, he was satisfied after having ascertained the details of the position that the steps taken by the Government were in the best interests of the Dominion. The controller of oil fuel, Mr G. L. Laurenson, had emphasised the desire of the Government to return to normal conditions in the petrol supply as soon as possible, and in the meantime, said Mr Batt, the finest co-operation the motorists could give was by the continued acceptance of necessary reMr Butt said that the controller when interviewed had explained that the English scheme of an allowance on the horse-power system was considered, but it had been found that to put it into operation would have caused a delay of at least two weeks, and in the meantime the private car owner would not have been able to obtain any supplies. "We have received an assurance that the Government will take all steps possible to make available lo consumers the maximum petrol quantity possible consistent with the building up of adequate reserve stores, added Mr Batt.
