PETROL APPLICATIONS ISSUE OF COUPONS TO-DAY NO DELAYS EXPERIENCED Commencing from 8 a.m., when the special office in Knox Street opened, there was a steady stream of applicants for petrol coupons in Hamilton to-day, the busiest period being about 11 o'clock, when many farmers arrived in the town. A staff of 20 is employed at the office, each man having charge of 500 licence numbers. No delays were experienced, the staff being able to cope easily with the applications, which follow a very simple form. All that the car-owner is required to do is to furnish the registration number of his vehicle and sign for the coupons. The post office officials handling the coupons are thoee who dealt with motor-relicensing this year, and so are familiar with all data referring to motor-car ownership. The work has been assisted by the fact that most applicants have understood the procedure they are to adopt, and by the fact that the counter is divided into sections above which are listed the various series of licence numbers. On their part the staff are handling the business very expeditiously. This was the subject of appreciative references by many motorists to-day. As licensing cards and other material are required in the office where benzine coupons are being iaaued. registration of motor vehicles will be dealt with at this office Instead of at the Chief Post Office. Personal Application The authorities have asked thet only those able to make personal application for coupons covering their vehicles should attend to-day, as when others persons apply on their behalf there will be Inevitable delays which will slow up the Issue of the sheets. Where an owner is unable to attend because of sickness or disability, he roust give a written and signed authority to a person to obtain the coupons. Where a commercial traveller uses his Arm's car for private purposes in addition to commercial, application for coupons must be made by the Arm.
