EXTRA PETROL RATION WORKING OF COUPON SYSTEM (fly to Times' WELLINGTON, Wednesday i Mr G. L. Laurenson, controller of } oil and fuel, stated today that business I motor-cars in __ respect of which j licenses for supplies of petrol had j been issued were also eligible fur the i allowance of iu gallons a month for pleasure. Replying to a suggestion that the issue of coupons would be expedited if one applicant were deputed to act for a group, Mr Laurenson stated that this would not work, as the Government required each registered owner to apply in person so that his signature as receipt for the coupons could be fixed to the registration card of the car concerned. “Car owners who are ill or who are invalids will, of course, be treated as special cases,” said Mr Laurenson'. “In general, however, it is the desire that the owner of the car should himself call for Ills petrol coupons. This system has been adopted largely for the protection of motor-car owners to make sure that the coupons go to the propei 1 people. It should be remembered that the coupon system 1 which involves calling at the post ’ offices where the car is registered to obtain the car’s supply of coupons is only for pleasure motoring.”
