PROCEEDING AS USUAL
BUILDING OP STATE HOUSES WORK IN HAMILTON DISTRICT There has been no easing in State housing operations in the Hamilton district and the departmental office in Hamilton has received no instructions to this effect. The district extends from Huntly to Taumarunui and to Thames, Tauranga, Whakatane, Opotlki and Rotorua. At present there are 471 units either completed or In process of erection in the Hamilton district, this total including houses for which contracts have been let. No men have been taken off housing work In Hamilton to go on to defence contracts and the department Is still calling tenders for dwellings. Actually tenders for 38 units for the Hayes Paddock scheme closed to-day. Thirty-six units on the Richmond Estate are almost completed and a further nine will be started 'shortly. Of those nearing completion 14 should be finished within a week or so. A start has been made at Hayes Paddock with 18 units situated In McFarlane Street and progress has been satisfactory, while at Forest Lake ten unite are in course of construction at the corner of Forest Lake Road and Carey Avenue. Three of these are well advanced and will be completed at an early date. In Hamilton 42 units (34 single and four two-unit houses) are occupied and in the district 314 units have been completed, 242 single and 36 double. Contracts have been let, or building is under way, on & further 117 single and 20 double units.
