DOMESTIC TROUBLES
CONCILIATION BILL AMENDED TO OPERATE FROM NOVEMBER (By Telegraph.—special to Times) WELLINGTON, Tuesday Amendments which have been made to the Domestic Proceedings Bill by the Statutes Revision Committee of the House of Representatives were reported to the House today by the chairman of the committee, Mr F. W. Schramm (Government —Auckland East). The original Bill provided that the legislation should come into force at the beginning of next month, but this date has been altered by the committee to November 1. A new clause provides that no statement or admissiun made to a conciliator shall be used in any court of law. If the attempt to effect a reconciliation is unsuccessful, or if it is desired that the magistrate should make an order to give effect to any agreement between the parties, the conciliator may report to the magistrate accordingly. The clause in the original Bill authorising a conciliator to report statements by a husband or wife to a magistrate provided their consent had been given has been struck out by the committee. The restrictions imposed by the original Bill on the publication of reports of domestic proceedings before a magistrate have been deleted. The committee has inserted a clause to provide for the issue of attachment orders against superannuation or retiring allowance. There are other amendments of a technical nature. The report of the committee was adopted.
