RHODES SCHOLARS
TWO NOW ON THEIR WAY UNCERTAINTY ABOUT POSITION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Tuesday When the war broke out the authorities at Oxford University cabled to New Zealand to the effect that Rhodes scholarships were suspended, but when they heard that New Zealand's pair, Messrs Berendsen and Weston, were already on the way to England, a further cable was sent leaving it to the scholars’ or their parents’ discretion whether they proceeded or returned to New Zealand. If the decision is made to complete the voyage the authorities at Oxford will look after the scholars. In the meantime communication is being established with the two, as far as circumstances will allow, but as yet !t is not known definitely whether they will return. There is similar uncertainly about the holders of other scholarships at Cambridge, who recently left for England.
