RUGBY TRIALS

70 PLAYERS TO APPEAR ANNUAL INTER-ISLAND MATCH LIST OF PLAYERS NOMINATED The New Zealand Rugby Union has decided to carry out its programme of trial matches to select the All Black team for the tour of South Africa next year. The first trial match and the annual inter-island match will be played at Athletic Park, Wellington, on Saturday, September 23, two more trial matches will be played on the next Wednesday, and the series will conclude with two further trials on September 30. In all 70 players will show their paces before the selectors In Wellington. The South Island team will be chosen on September 13, and the North Island team will be selected at Auckland on September 16. The teams for the trial matches will be chosen at Auckland on Saturday next by the sole selector for the New Zealand Rugby Union, Mr E. McKenzie, Carterton, who will be assisted In an honorary secretarial capacity by Mr A. A. Adams, one of the South Island selectors.
