TE RAPA TRIALS
AVONDALE MEETING AHEAD SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS PRINCE ACRE AND SUSAN PLEASE (By “Martian”) Though on the dead side, the going on the course proper, some 50ft. out from the rails, was in comparatively good order at Te Rapa this morning when the semi-final gallops for the approaching Avondale meeting were conducted under pleasant conditions, although fog delayed the commencement of operations. The best effort of the morning was that of Prince Acre and Susan. Mayfair and Lady Bambury were galloped five furlongs when the pegs were still obscured and they could not be timed. Both ace entered for engagements at Avondale and are bearing a healthy appearance. Race Gamp (McLaughlin) was doing better than Mio Generate (Watson) at the completion of six furlongs in 1.25 •4-5, their first half-mile in 56£s and the five furlongs in 1.11 1-5. It was Mio Generale’s first work-out for a spell and his showing, under the circumstances, was quite satisfactory. Australian Star (Thomson), accompanied by Raceline (Brown) over the first half-mile, ran to the five-furlong peg In 1.11 1-5, the initial half-mile in 55 4-ss. Raceline executed his work w r ell and looks in good order for racing ahead. He is an acceptor for the Swanson Handicap on the first day at Avondale and is not without prospects of springing a surprise. Condition Of Hunto Hunto (Winder), who is bearing a healthy appearance, was timed to run half-a-mile, from the three furlongs to the seven, easily in 575. He is engaged in the Trial Plate at Avondale on Saturday and a line through his showing at the Pakurange Hunt would suggest that he will prove equal to a solid showing. Meadow (Gilmer) and Karatoke (Long) were associated over half-a-mile in 55 4-ss, both executing their work pleasingiy. The best trial of 'the morning was that of Prince Acre (Winder) and Susan (Hain), who finished practically on terms at the completion of a round. They ran their first half-mile in 52£s, the five furlongs in 1.7 2-5, six in 1.20 1-5, seven in 1.33 1-5, the mile in 1.47 and the full distance in 2.19 4-5. Both were travelling well within themselves throughout and it was a solid effort. Manerloo (Long) accompanied Ngawiri (Ensor) over the first half-mile of five furlongs in 1.9, the half-mile occupying '53 4-ss. Classic Over Six Classic (Brown) was doing better than Calorie (Ensor) at the completion of six furlongs in 1.22, the first halfmile in 54 i-5s and the five furlongs in 1.8 1-5. Classic, who is looking a picture, impressed. Mio Lume (Winder) and Diversity (Amunsden) got to the end of a circuit in 2.185. Rosemae (Long) and Sir Lysander (Thomson) were paired over five furlongs but Sir Lysander failed to negotiate the turn at the foot of the straight and was pulled up, Rosemae carrying on alone to run the distance in 1.11. Surpai (Long) and Forest Bridge (Hain) ran half-a-mile, from the three-furlong peg, in 565, the final three furlongs being run in 4045. Both executed their work in pleasing fashion and will in all probability be seen out at the Avondale fixture, the latter being entered for the second day. Gappy (Brown) ran once round in 2.18. •Calsliot (O. Mclnally) was schooled over one hurdle but was not impressive. Mio Lume (Winder), on the other hand, jumped the same obstacle in polished style. Mio Fratollo (Amunsden) shaped well over two of the pony fences along the back. Riding engagements for Avondale include: — A. Gilmer.—Adsum. N. Watson. —Herewith. T.
