AMATEUR CYCLING

WAIKATO CHAMPIONSHIPS TE AWAMUTU ROAD RACES (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. The Waikato cycling championships were held at Te Awamutu on Saturday. The Junior event was over a course from the Masonic Lodge corner eouth along the main road for 12$ miles and hack to finish at the root of Carlton Street. The 11 riders who faced the starter came rrom Te Kuiti, Matamata, and Te Awamutu. The field had a head win on the outward run but on the return the pace was on, and. almost to the finishing point, tbe riders were bunched. McAlplne was first Into the straight with Swlnbourne, Lee and Stewart on his wheel. The Matamata rider, Swlnbourne, did best to win rrom Stewart by a wheel with Lee and McAlplne hair-a-wheel away. It was the closest finish for some years. The detailed result was: Swlnbourne (Matamata), ih 16m 10s. l; D. Stewart (Te Kuiti), 76m 10$s. 2; A. Lee (Te Kuiti), 76m its. 3; L. Mr Alpine (Te Awamutu), 7Cm 11*8, 4. Senior Event The senior championship drew 10 riders Tor a course rrom the Masonic Lodge corner over nine circuits or the run to Klhtklhi hack via Park Road, approximately 50 miles. In the final lap, Gydc and Lee, the Trout-markers, were in the lead, but Lee finished first. H. Liddlngton uas next aTter Lee and his time was the fastest with 2h 14m 12s, and he gained the championship. The second fastest time was made by G. Irvine, 2h 18m 10 4 ss. The rastest lap or the day was W. Hamilton’s 12m 17s. The actual placing* were: L. Lee 1, A. Gyde 2, 11. Llddinglon 3; and (j. Irvine 4. TE AROHA CLUB SATURDAY’S RESULTS (Special to Times.) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. The Te Aroha Cycling Club held a road race to Waitoa and back on Saturday, the result being: M. Mandeno (6.30) 1, V. Reader (7.0) 2, D. Klngsford (2.15) 8.
