CAMBRIDGE

DOMAIN IMPROVEMENTS BOARD’S QUARTERLY MEETING At the quarterly meeting of the Cambridge Domain Board those present were: Messrs S. Lewis (chairman), N. R. Souter, W. Moore, H. Ferguson, Edgar James, A. Pearce, G. M. Watt and n. S. Hanna (secretary). The chairman reported that he had secured some of the timber from the old Karapiro bridge for the purpose of erecting a pergola near the tennis courts and for general use in the park. A request was received from the Domain Croquet Club for assistance in securing a suitable man to ciut and roll the lawns. The board decided to ask the Croquet Club to approach the Bowling Club in connection with the cutting, and the board would endeavour to co-operate by having someone to assist with the rolling of the bowling greens and croquet lawns. Mr W. Moore reported that protective work had been carried out at the stop-bank, which was now in a secure state. He mentioned that the borough engineer, Mr W. McK. Jeffrey, had given considerable help in the matter. The board decided to send a letter of appreciation to Mr Jeffrey. Messrs A. Pearce and N. R. Souter were asked to investigate the state of the bank of the lake near the main gate, and to take whatever action was necessary to effect repairs. ORPHANS’ CLUB The executive of the Cambridge Orphans’ Club decided last week to cancel the annual “Ladies Night” gathering, which had been fixed for later in the month. RADIO IN SCHOOL A modern radio set with an extension speaker and gramophone pick-up, has been installed in the Roto-o-rangi School. This was made possible by the energetic activities of the teachers of the school and the committee. It was decided only at the last meeting to raise funds for the purpose.
