Colt Named The pseudonym of Gheddington has been claimed for the two-year-old colt bv Phaleron Bay from Silver Rule in 1\ Davis’ stable at Ellerslie. The halfbrother to the speedy Silver Stick is a massive'colt and will not be hurried. Acceptances Missed Sly Fox and Blonde Princess, winners of the Iliggie Handicap and Owen Handicap at Wanganui respectively, missed the acceptances for the Avondale Jockey Club’s meeting. Sly Fox had been entered for the Avondale Cup and Blonde Princess for the open sprint. Francis Drake Francis Drake is rapidly approaching his best and when next called upon to race he should lack little on the score of condition. In a trial at Ellerslie last week he impressed by finishing on solidly over the deciding stages of six furlongs. Promising Novice Among the promising novices located at Auckland headquarters is the Tea Tray—Kildeer gelding in F. Gilchrist’s stable, Thakaboor. On Saturday he was sent along over three furlongs and the time, 3'Bs, was the best of the morning over the distance. In Work Again The three-year-old Bronze Fire has resumed work at Ellerslie and is looking in right order to enter on a further preparation. By Bronge Eagle from Lady Pandora he shaped very promisingly in his early sprinting- essays until a cold necessitated a spell. Prospects of Hunto Among the improving maidens at Te Bapa engaged in the Trial Plate on the first, day at Avondale is the Hunting Song colt Hunto, who at the Pakuranga Hunt last month drew attention ; to his immediate prospects. In the • interim he has progressed well and it j should not be on the score of condi--1 tion if lie fails to show to advantage. At Ellerslie he was finishing full of determination and he should be right at home in the long Avondale straight.

Progress of Raceline Raceline has been progressing satisfactorily in liis preparation and is bearing a healthy appearance. On Saturday he is to contest the Swanson Handicap at Avondale and especially in the event of the going being on the holding side he will have to be included among the list of prospects. Silver Quex Silver Quex, who recently resumed work at Ellerslie, lias come in again in good order to enter on a further preparation. The other mornintg she was given her first fast work for a spell and the manner in which she accomplished her task indicated that she should be ready for racing fairly early in the new season. First of the Season The Bulandshar filly, Idore, has the distinction of winning the first two-year-old event of the season and her success in the Debutante Stakes at Wanganui on Saturday was thoroughly merited. The sister to the speedy Baran jumped out smartly and the manner in which she was sticking to her guns at the finish impressed. Hitting Out Well Mayfair ha.s been hitting out in pleasing manner of late and the Hunting Song three-year-old gives every indication of developing into a useful three-year-old. This member of the .lulian establishment raced unsuccessfully as a juvenile but she has furnished well and looks in good order for racing in the new term. AVONDALE EVENT TRIAL PLATE DIVISIONS PROVISIONAL DRAW ANNOUNCED (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday In the event of the number of starters exceeding the safety number of 28 in the Trial Plate at the Avondale Jockey Club's Spring Meeting on Saturday, the race will he run in two divisions and the total prize money will be increased to £4OO.
