WOMAN FACES THEFT CHARGE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Monday A Maori woman, Materia Brown, aged 44, charged on remand with stealing £137 10s from an elderly Chinese, Lee Jung, pleaded not guilty in the Police Court and was committed to the Supreme Court for trial. The theft was alleged to have taken place In Myers Park. Detective Blackburn said that when he was interviewing the accused woman at her house on the day of the alleged offence she ran downstairs, and lie overlook her just in time to prevent her throwing a roll of notes down a drain. He recovered the roll, which contained notes valued at £l3l. Later accused said she had been given the money to mind.
