HAMILTON BRANCH
NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN CONFERENCE POSTPONED The monthly meeting of the branch was held recently in the Lyceum Club, when the president, Mrs Mclntosh, J.P., presided over a large attendance among whom were several new delegates and associate members. It was announced that, owing to the outbreak of hostilities the biennial conference of the National Council of Women of New Zealand, to have been held in Christchurch this month, has been postponed for at least six months. Sponsored by leading women of many countries, a Women’s World Peace Congress is to be held 'in Havana, Cuba, early in 1940, and the National Council of Women has been asked to lend its support to the two delegates attending from New Zealand. The following resolution was passed: That the Hamilton branch of the National Council of Women of New Zealand appreciates the aims of those responsible for calling the Womeu’s World Peace Congress and assures them of its moral support. It is understood that the Congress has been postponed, but when the date is finally fixed, the branch hopes to be able to give material support, even if only in a very small way. Speaker From Christchurch Miss Jamieson, for many years a prominent member of the Christchurch branch, attended the meeting and spoke of the profound impression made upon her by a Women’s Peace Conference which she attended last year. She briefly described the conference of the International Council of Women held in Edinburgh a year ago, and paid a tribute to Lady Aberdeen, honorary president of the International Council of Women. Members were able to inspect a medallion struck for the conference, which bears in relief the head of Lady Aberdeen, and which is to be presented to the National Council of Women of New Zealand. Emergency Precautions Bcheme Names continue to be received in a very satisfactory manner for the Emergency Precautions Scheme (Women’s Auxiliary). The following members are in charge of the various sections under which women may enrol:—Mrs P. Snell (nursing), Mrs Toombs (home assistance), Mrs A. G. Sanford (transport), and Mrs H. €. Ross (camp welfare organisation). Various remits to come before the conference were discussed before the close of the meeting.
