WORK DELAYED
SOUTH ISLAND RAILWAY DELIVERY OF STEEL INQUIRY TO BE HELD (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Monday Delay in the delivery of the steel for the Clarence River bridge is holding up progress on the northern section of the Soutli I-sland Main Trunk Railway. The steel superstructure of the brdige is being constructed in 12 spans and weighs approximately 1000 tons. The. contract for the fabrication of the steel was left to the Railways Department, several months ago. and no difficulty was expected in handling the work. The fabrication is being carried out at the railway workshops in Wellington, and an inquiry as to the cause of the delay will be made by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, who learned on Saturday that it would be several months yet before the steel would be available. In other respects good progress has been made on the northern section of the line.
