Early this week Viscount Halifax is expected to receive the Apostolic delegate, Monsignor Godfrey, who will deliver a special message from Pope Pius. In addition a high prelate, whose name at present is not divulged, is going to London to-morrow, bearing a second special message, but it is not known whether it is addressed to the King or to Mr -Chamberlain. CoD.vrlghtj VATICAN CITY, June 2 The Pope told the College of Cardinals that he has received assurances of goodwill and a resolve to

maintain peace from Europe’s principal statesmen as a result of his recent overtures. His Holiness added that he possessed “other information” giving greater hope that the statesmen would be guided by the humanities in approaching international problems. llis decision to intervene was made at the beginning of May whpn dissensions appeared likely to lead to war, and be was convinced, as that the result of the survey, there had been a relaxation of tension in mens souls.
