EFFECT ON DAIRYING

IMPORT CONTROL REGULATIONS SOUTH ISLAND APPREHENSION The opinion that the import control restrictions will definitely increase still further the costs in the dairying and other farming industries is expressed in the annual report of the South Island Dairy Association. “There has already been a sharp rise in the price of most commodities, and this tendency will coutinue to grow as the supply of goods lessens,” the report states. "We are apprehensive also at the possible reaction :u Britain and our other overseas markets to the import restrictions. It is reasonable to assume that the British and other manufacturers will not accept kindly the loss of trade which Lhe regulations will impose on them and that retaliatory measures may be taken which would seriously affect the interests of those engaged in the Dominion’s farming industries ”
