CAMBRIDGE CLUB ALFORD GUP RESULTS (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Sunday. A reature of the Alford Gup play on the Cambridge links yesterday, was the phenomenal round by the ultimate winner, 1.. Webber. After being 3 down last week for third place be carded an 62 gioss uir hie 2o mark lor a 02 net, to be 2 up, giving him an aggregate of 1 down. 11. Clayton finished square alter heading the lieid last week with one down, to finish with an aggregate of 1 down. He was unfortunate lo lose the cup on the count back as he played steady golf throughout. Webber s handicap will probably receive attention arter Saturday’s effort. Another good round was that or V. C. Hollis, who carded a 7 6 gross to finish square with bogey. Maurice Woolley was responsible Tor a fine 7 3 gross that will set the handicapper thinking. This colt is still in the Cambridge Handicap, and tr he continues In this mood, will take some beating. Other cards handed in were:— E. Morrice, 2 down; D. J. Lundon, 2 down; W. Rice, 3 down; E. H. White, 3 down; Dr. Tod, 4 down. Cambridge Handicap A great contest was seen in the quar-ter-final of the Cambridge Handicap between K. S. Alford (5) and il. Clayton (12). Clayton was on his game and with the aid of strokes turned 2 up. A bogey 4 and stroke at the tenth gave him a commanding lead or 3 up, going to the ilth. There his game slumped and Alford took four of the next five holes to be l up and 3 to play. Fighting back, Clayton won the 1 Gtil with a great birdie 3 to square the match. The 17th and 18th were squared and the match went on to the iyth where Clayton with a fine second looked the winner. Alford played his safe 4 and Clayton’s putt for the birdie and the win sat on the lip. The match ended at the 20th when Alford carded a 5 to Clayton’s G. It was Clayton’s unlucky day as he was playing the Alford Cup round in conjunction, and although he finished square with bogey, lost tne cup on the count back. In the other hair or the draw E. Nlckle, the club president, defeated W. H. Woolley 2 up. This competition is now nearing completion and the winner is difficult to pick. At the top of the draw, W. Rice is in the semi-final and plays the winner or A. Clayton and C. H. White, while at the bottom R. S. Airord is In the semi-final and plays the winner or M. Woolley and E. Nickle.
