CANBERRA, June 2 A serious development has arisen In connection with a contract for extensions tu tiie Sydney General post Office, to cost £400,000. The Prime Minister, Mr R. G. Mcnzies, under pressure from the Country and Labour Parties, announced m the |louse of Representatives to-day that an official of the Sydney Post office had signed a contract binding ihe Government with a firm of contractors, in spite of the fact that he (Mr Menzies; on the day before had given instructions that the contract should not be signed pending an inquiry as to whether the Lyons Government's plan lor the use of sandstone instead of terracotta should be adopted. The Prime Minister admitted that he was very worried about the disobedience of his orders, and said he had granted a request for a Royal Commission to inquire into the whole circumstances.
