DECLINE IN PRODUCTION WHOLE COMMUNITY AFFECTED NEW PLYMOUTH, Friday What Is of serious concern to everybody in New Zealand to-day Is the fact that production is down on almost all primary products,” said Mr H. E. Blyde, in addressing the annual conference of the North Taranaki Farmers’ Union to-day. “I think it is just as well for us, and not only us. but for every other person in New Zealand, to realise that the fall in production definitely means a lower standard of living for everybody within the country,” he added. “The point we have to watch is to see that anything we advocate is something that is in the interests of everybody in New Zealand, and not merely in the interests of the primary producer. If we can get anybody in New Zealand to appreciate that the fall in primary production, the lack of encouragement to young men to take on primary production, and the tendency further to penalise primary production will all be reflected in the standard of living in the general community, I believe we could make the general community realise that its interests are our interests to a large extenL”
