CRASH CONDITIONS

TEBT AT RONQOTAI AERODROME FIRE-FIGHTING EQUIPMENT (By TelegTspn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday Fire-fighting equipment at Rongotai aerodrome was tested yesterday afternoon in circumstances which were as near as possible to actual crash conditions. When the alarm was given each member of the ground staff took up his emergency station. The tire truck was manned and one of the crew donned the asbestos suit, which was tried out under actual service conditions, and the fireman thus protected walked into the Are and directed the nozzle of the extinguisher hose at the seat of the flames. The equipment of the truck includes a salvage hook, with which portions of a burning aeroplane may be removed, a metal saw. and wire cutters. A stretcher, a flrst-aid outfit, a fireman's axe and a small ladder completes the equipment. The drill was witnessed by officials of the aerodrome and the Wellington Fire Brigade.
