PROPOSALS FOR REDUCTION PREDICTION BY MINISTER (By Telcjrraph.—Pros* Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday ••When we are assured it is practicable it will not be long before legislation reducing hours comes down," said the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, answering a question at a Christchurch South by-election meeting to-night. Mr Webb was asked whether he favoured the extension of the 40-hour week to workers employed In shops. He suggested in his reply that if it became necessary he would go as far as asking workers to work longer hours to maintain the production level in vital industries.
