“Entente Cordiale” - Historic Film

Cinema . . . Snapshots

We have had plenty of French historical characters in English films, but now we are to see some famous Englishmen in a French film about the relations between the two countries Id pre-war yeirs. The picture is "Entente Cordiale,” which, as its title indicates, is concerned with the events leading to the cementing of Anglo-French friendship in the first years of this century. They include the nearly disastrous Fashoda Incident, Kitchener’s firm action on that occasion, King Edward s elforts at peace-making, and the signing of the agreement that settled the dispute and made the Entente Cordiale possible. King Edward VII is being played by Victor Francen. Gaby Morlay appears as Queen victoria and Arlette Marchal as Queen Alexandra. Jean Galland takes the part of Kitchener, and Jean D’Yd has the role of Joseph Chamberlain. A notable point is the excellence of the likeness to famous personages that have been achieved by the French players. Particularly close is Jean Galland’s resemblance to Kitchener. The picture, which is being directed by Marcel LUerhier, has settings in the capitals and fashionable places of pre-war Europe, as w-ell as in Egypt. It is officially described as being “gay, diverting, historic and romantic."
