ADDINGTON MARKETS
SLIGHTLY EASIER VALUES Except in the fat and store sheep sections the tendency at the weekly stock market at Addington was toward slightly easier values. A few pens of good sheep were included in the store sheep offering of >ISOO head. A wellwoolled line of three-quarterbred two and three-shear ewes sold at 19s 3d and a small line of mixed age Romneycross at 10s 6d. Many of the other pens made 7s to Bs. Fairly forward lambs made to 12s. The fat lamb entry totalled about 700 against 11S0 last week. Only a few pens were up to butchers’ standards and these had a fairly good sale, rates being firm. The remainder of the entry went weakly at export parity with roughest sorts from as low as 7s. The fat sheep entry was about 4500 compared with 5000 a week ago. On the average good wethers were better than a week ago by is 6d to 2s and good ewes by is to Is 6d, while lighter sheep were about Is dearer than lastweek. Extra prime heavy wethers made to 27s 7d; prime heavy, 23s 6d to 265: prime medium. 21s 6d to 235; light, to 16s 6d; extra prime heavy ewes, to 23s iOd; prime, heavy, ißs 6d to 20s 6d; prime medium, 14s to 18s; light to 9s 6d. The entry of fat cattle was 530 compared with 480 last week. The sale was somewhat disappointing, the improvement of 10s to 15s a head recorded last week for better sorts being largely lost. A lot of plain but fairly heavy beef sold at about 30s a 1001 b, and only exceptional pens reached 335. Extra prime heavy steers made to £l7 12s 6d; prime heavy, £l3 to £l4 ss; prime medium, £ll to £l2 15s; light to £8 15s; extra prime heifers, to £l3 7s 6d; prime, £9 to £lO ss; medium, £6 to £8 ss; light, to £5 15s; extra prime cows, to £ll 7s 6d; prime, £7 5s to £8 10s; medium, £5 to £6 15s; light, to £4 15s. The heavy entry of porkers had a depressing effect on the market and all classes were easier except the finest quality, which maintained last week’s rates. Choppers were in medium numbers and again met with a good sale at unchanged rates. Baconers were in heavier supply and only the best quality maintained the values of a week ago. Plain and unfinished sorts were 3s to 4s easier. Porkers brought 33s 6d to 53s 6d; average price per lb, 6id to 6fd; baconers, £2 15s 6d to £4 9s 6d; average price per lb, 6id to 62cL
