GUIDES’ FANCY DRESS DANCE St. John’s Parish Hall on Friday evening was the scene of a gay party of young people which spoke for the enterprise and enthusiasm of the guides and their committee. The lunds are to be devoted to send ing a Te Awamutu guide representative to the centennial camp. The hall was gaily decorated with streamers, balloons and autumn leaves and the hostess for the evening was Mrs A. Goodall. Mr L. S. Armstrong acted as M.G. Music was supplied by Messrs D. Fraser, W. DRAMA CLUB FIRST READING OF SEASON The Te Awamutu Drama club held the first reading of the season in St. John's Parish Hall on Tuesday evening. A. A. Milne's play, "The Great Broxopp," with its many humorous situations, was admirably read, all tilling their parts most successfully. The cast was: Broxopp, Rev. Martin Sullivan; Nancy, his wife, Mrs Martin Sullivan; Jack, his son, Mr Win Bent; Sir Roger Tenterden, Mr Brian Malone; Iris Tenterden, Miss Lorna Potts; llonoria- Johns, Miss V. Holt; Ronald Derwent, Mr P. Steer; Norali Feild, Miss B. Malone; Benham, Mr Harry Bent; Mary, Mrs Mather; Alice, Miss Nan Potts/ Amongst the ladies present were:— Mesdames 11. Bent, J. Wynyard, H. Mandeno, G. Hall, J. O’Sullivan, B. Malone, B. Dawson, H. Steer, R. Andrew, E. Potts. Howard Empson, Eric Bent, E. Hopping. Misses S. Empson, E. Monteflore, Hayward, Scarfe, B. Dunkley, p. North, B. Henderson. FAREWELL PARTY FOR MR AND MRS C. A. BOWLER The Te Rah'U Hall was well filled recently, when the many friends of Mr and Mrs C. A. Bowler gathered to bid them farewell. Dancing was the main feature of the evening, music being supplied by Messrs Armour and Fraser, while Mr Alan Johnson was M.C. After supper Mr J. A. Johnson spoke of the assistance Mr and Mrs Bowler had rendered to all movements for the betterment of the district and of their sterling qualities as neighbours. He asked them to accept a beautiful standard, lamp and a polished walnut coffee table. On behalf of the tennis club, the president, Mr T. A. West presented the guests with a frameless mirror as a token of esteem and appreciation. He referred to the wonderful work Mr Bowler had done during his 18 years of membership in which time he had held every office. Mr Bowier acknowledged the gifts and thanked the speakers for their kind remarks. "Auld Lang Syne” brought a jolly evening to a close.
