The English county cricket championship matches again attracted a great deal of interest and the brighter cricket was much appreciated. There were several good performances, H. Gimblett, of Somerset, continuing in his fine form. D. G. Compton, M. S. Nichols, H. Sutcliffe, J. Hardstaff, W. R. Hammond, and N. Mitchell Innes were prominent batsmen who made runs, while the e.xNevv Zealander. W. E. Merritt, secured one of the best bowling averages. Latest results are:— Sussex v. Middlesex. —Sussex, first innings 182; second innings 236. Middlesex, first innings 264 (-Compton 81) ; second innings 155 for three wickets Middlesex won by seven wickets. Essex v. Worcester. —Essex, first Innings 271 (Nicholls, in. 116; Jenkins, seven for 98) : second innings 285 for five wickets, declared (O’Connor, in, 118). Worcester, first innings 155; second innings 106 (R. Smith six for 46). Essex won by 255 runs, runs. Kent v. Hampshire. —Kent, first innings 271 (Heath 4 8 for five wickets) ; second innings 364 (Fagg 149). Hampshire, first innings 211; second innings 108 Todd 40 for five wickets). Kent won by 179 runs. Lancashire v. Yorkshire.—Lancashire, first innings 300 (Nutter 85); second innings 185 (Bowes 43 for six wickets). Yorkshire, first innings 528 for eight wickets, declared (Sutcliffe 165, Mitchell 136). Yorkshire won by an innings and 43 runs. Leicester v. Gloucester, first innings 265 (Hammond 91); second innings 129 for five wickets. Gloucester won on the first innings. Warwick v. Warwick won by 71 runs. Oxford v. Free Foresters. —Oxford, first innings 283 (Eager 92); second innings 329 (Eager 134). Free Foresters. first innings 220; second innings 383 (Mitchell-innes 143). Oxford won by nine runs.
GLAMORGAN TEAM WINS WEST INDIES BEATEN LONDON. May 30. Glamorgan made 157 runs. West Indies in their second innings made 208 runs—Sealey 58, Cameron 46, Grant 43 Wooller took five wickets for 69 runs. Glamorgan won by 73 runs.
