EXTENDED DATE
INCOME TAX PAYMENTB LATE DESPATCH OF DEMANDS Delays have occurred in the despatch of income tax demands by the department in Wellington and about 10 per cent, of the total number of taxpayers in the Dominion will obtain an extension of the date by which their tax must be paid. It was explained yesterday that on all the demands issued late the tax would be payable on March G, and the 21 days of grace would end on March 27. An official of the Taxation Department in Wellington stated yesterday that the normal activities had been disorganised when the offices were removed to new quarters at Christmas, and as a result the issue of some thousands of demands had been delayed. Many ol' these were posted on Tuesday and yesterday, and it was expected that the last of them would be sent by the end of the week. In some instances the individuals affected had not waited to receive their demands, but had already paid the tax.
