Stevens, in a speech said he did not object to the Labour Party In the Hurstrable by-election saying that they should follow the example of New Zealand. “In New Zealand to-day,” he said, “the price of bricks at the kiln is 113 s per thousand, as against 68s In New South Wales. If you are going to copy New Zealand as an example then copy it. Don’t just pick the eyes out of It. “Use New Zealand as an authority for the fantastic theory that all workers should be carried free on the Government’s vehicles and that wages and the cost of living should be fixed by Parliament and not by judicial tribunals.”
