TEMPERATURE EXTREMES
WEATHER DURING FEBRUARY FIVE FROSTS AT RUAKURA Extremes of temperature not usual during February in the Waikato were experienced last month when on some mornings conditions were almost like winter. Towards the end of the month the first continuous warm spell this year set in. and temperatures rose to the normal early autumn level. An indication of the severity of conditions last month is given by the fact that at tlie Ruakura Farm of Instruction five frosts, one of six degrees were recorded. While, on occasions, frosts have occurred in parts of the Waikato even during the summer, the number recorded last month was little short of phenomenal. Deep-sea Angling Fishing in Ihe Bay of Islands this week, Mr W. Watt, of Cambridge, landed a striped marlin of 2781 b and a mako shark of 2621 b. Otago Wool Clip The return to growers from the second Otago wool sale on February 8 was £355,040. which, with £306.534 from the opening sale in December, brings the provincial wool cheque to date up to £661.574. This is slightly less than half the total receipts from the four, sales last year.
