BRITISH SHIPPING
GREAT SHORTAGE ALLEGED IN TIME OP EMERGENCY SUPPLIES BY THE DOMINIONS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received Feb. 28, noon) LONDON, Feb. 27 Lord Craigmoyle, speaking at Galashield, said Britain is short hy 2000 ships of the useful types essential to carry food and munitions in an emergency. The Government had argued that the decrease in English tonnage was compensated for by the increased Dominion and colonial tonnage. “We ale left to draw the conclusion that Dominion shipping is available to Britain in time of emergency,” said Lord Craigmoyle. “It is a public duty to investigate this argument and ascertain what proportion of such ships are suitable and can be spared for local defence duties.”
