AN AUSTRALIAN SCHEME BRANCHES OF SERVICE READY FOR EMERGENCY (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright Received Feb. 28. 1 p.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 28 The Federal Cabinet has decided to supplement the plan for a man-power register with a women’s register, for service in' a national emergency. The whole scheme will be voluntary. Women will register in three age groups—namely, from 18 to 28 years, from 29 to 39 years, and ovtj’ 39 years. Mr J. A. Lyons said the services of women would be utilised in peacetime in relief and mercy work, canteen work, transport activities and the staffing of the auxiliary services. In war-time they also would be employed in the work of production and as substitutes for men in various fields, such as munition work, and the clothing and food manufacturing industries.
