Building Increase The aggregate value of buildings represented by permits Issued in the larger centres during the calendar year 1038 was £9,057.252, compared with £7.3*25,273 in 1937, and £5,522.427 in 1936, states the Government Statistician. Yachting on Lake 'Members of the newly-formed Hamilton Yacht Club buoyed a course at the Hamilton Lake yesterday and after trial runs all were well satisfied with the arrangements. An alternative course, for light weather, will be marked shortly. There were eight yachts on the lake yesterday and several more have been ordered. Opening day will probably be on March 11 and it is expected that five boats from Auckland will be competing on that day. Wap Fears Discounted.—Speaking on the international situation, General Voruz, a French officer visiting Auckland, said unless some rulers became mad there should be no war. The results were too clearly known and the lack of solution by such means too obvious. He said he had no immediate fears that the world was on the verge of serious war. Although retired, General Voruz said he was still liable and ready for service and had he considered France was on the brink of war he would never have thought of putting himself at the other end of the world.
