AJAX WINS AGAIN CAULFIELD FUTURITY STAKES WILSON, HIGH CASTE, DISDAIN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright MELBOURNE, Feb. 2 6 Continuous rain marred the concluding day of the Victoria Amateur Turf Club's meeting at Caulfield yesterday. By winning the 42nd Caulfield Futurity Stakes Ajax put up a remarkable effort in recording J .28J for seven furlongs on such a sodden track. Ajax has won 16 races in succession, and only Gloaming and Desert Gold, with 19 wins each, are ahead of him. Ajax has now won £27,475 in stakes. The New Zealand-bred colt High Caste, recently purchased by Mr A. E. Tancred. scored an effortless win in the second division of the Alma Stakes. High Caste cost Mr Tancred 7000gns. The first division of the Alma Stakes was won by another New Zealand-bred colt. Wilson, who scored impressively. Owned by Mr W. R. Kemball, the New Zealand-bred National won the St. Clair Trial, but lost on a protest to Landiaw. O. Phillips, the rider of National, was disqualified for six months for foul riding. Copyright) (•Received Feb. 27, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 27 The newspaper sporting writers give the highest praise to Ajax’s performance in winning Futurity Stakes in a downpour of rain on a sodden track, carrying the record weight for a four-year-old of 10.6. The Daily Telegraph’s Melbourne correspondent says that Ajax’s brilliant win in the Futurity Stakes may result in his purchase for racing and stud purposes in America! Mr E. K. Thornton, steward of the Riverside Jockey Club, Kansas City, who Is visiting Australia to report officially for several United States clubs on racing and horses in this country, said that Ajax is 201 b better than any horse on American tracks and was worth every penny of £50,000 asked for him. Mr E. L. Baillieu, one of Ajax’s partowners, said that Ajax was still for sale if anyone was prepared to pay the price.
