GOOD SCORING

CANTERBURY’S INNINGS ENGLISHMEN’S HARD TASK KERR’S BRILLIANT FORM (By Telegraph—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday A brilliant innings by J. L. Kerr, the Canterbury captain, was the outstanding performance in the first day’s play in the cricket match between Sir Julien Cahn's touring team and Canterbury, which was commenced at Lancaster Park to-day. Kerr's display was reminiscent of the brilliant form he displayed a few years ago, which made him one of the. outstanding batsmen in the Dominion. Canterbury at the end of the day’s play had marie 415 for the loss of eight wickets and, if high scoring continues, it will be very doubtful whether the match can be finished in three days. Others who batted well are R. E. J. Menzies and I. B. Gromb. Bowling not Difficult On the easy wicket none of the Canterbury batsmen found the bowling really difficult, and only one so far has not reached double figures. The wicket was made for batsmen and the bowlers had a hard task in keeping runs down. The weather was brilliantly fine, with a light breeze from the northeast, and there was a good crowd present considering it was an off day. The gate takings amounted to £l2O.
