ON THE FRENCH COAST. —Between the Loire and the Garonne Rivers, the west coast of France is studded with seaside resorts, of which the township of Royan is the best known. Situated on the right bank of the Gironde River, the population of Royan is normally 10,000, but it swells to many times that size during the summer season. The climate here is unusually mild. Because of this and its proximity to England, this town has become very popular with English visitors.
