KIO KIO BRANCH MEETING ADDRESS BY MR BROADFOOT (Special to Times) OTOROHAKGA, Friday There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Kio Kio branch nf the National Party. Mr Walter Bluck (chairman of the Otorohanga County Council) was re-elected chairman. and Mr C. B. Jngham secretary. Among those present were Mr W. J. Broadfoot, M.P. for Waitomo, Mr H. E. Walters, electorate chairman, and Mr T. Cowley, party organiser. Mr Broadfoot. attacked the Government’s legislation and condemned the 40-hour week. Unless we were prepared to consume less, the 40-hour week would have to be abandoned. Skilled workers in the freezing industry earned up to £750 per annum, while the Minister of Finance thought £4 a week, plus £1 iOs house rent, was sufficient for the farmer.

Mr Broadfoot stated that Mr Nash was a Socialist, and wanted the debts of the Dominion inside the State so that when a crisis came he could ditch the big creditors. Revenue from taxation was £12,000,000 greater than when the Labour Government came into power. The speaker considered Mr Nash would have to manipulate Die currency to finance the social security scheme.
