£2OOO DAMAGE

FIRE IN AUCKLAND CONFECTIONARY MANUFACTURERS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) AUCKLAND, Friday. Flames which threw skywards great masses of and burning embers, destroyed a large two-storev xvooden building owned by Mcnsrs Browne Bros, and Geddes, Limited, confectionary manufacturers, at Newmarket at daybreak to-day.

Although a portion of the framework was saved the building is regarded as a complete loss and will have to be rebuilt. The fire brigades did good work in preventing the spread of the flames to the company’s main store and manufacturing premises. The block that was destroyed was insured for £IOOO and the contents for £IBOO, both with Lloyds. The company’s loss, over and above the insurances, is estimated at £2OOO. Nearby residents for a time were concerned about the danger from falling embers, but this was of brief duration.
