MUST BE NON=POLITICAL
DAIRY BOARD ATTITUDE (Times Special Reporter) MORRINSVILLE, Thursday “There are some who think because the board is not fighting the Government tooth and nail all the time, that it cannot be doing its job for the producers. I want to say right now that the board's job is quite apart from politics. We have our personal political opinions, but it will be a bad day for the industry when these are allowed to obtrude into our work on your behalf,” said Mr W. E. Hale, chairman of the Dairy Board, when speaking at the No. 1 Ward conference to-day.
Mr Hale reported on the activities of the board during the year, and the progress made since its inception in 1923.
Dealing with marketing, Mr Hale said that the present successful marketing scheme was conceived in the aims of the first Dairy Board -which was killed from within. Anti-control elements on the board itself brought about the downfall of the scheme. “Disunity in the industry is fatal to any progress. As a united industry we can go ahead and receive recognition of our claims if they are fair; as a scattered industry we can get nowhere.”
Mr Hale appealed for unity in the industry and co-operation between the organisations associated with it.
