BUILDERS’ SOCIAL

DELEGATES ENTERTAINED NEED FOR CO-OPERATION APPRECIATION OF WELCOME Arranged by the Hamilton Master Builders’ Association, in conjunction with the Hamilton Sub-contractors' Association, a complimentary social to the delegates visiting Hamilton for the 39th annual conference of the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors’ Association was held in the Waikato Winter Show concert hall last evening.

A welcome to the visitors at the social, who included members of the Hamilton Borough Council, members of the Architects’ Associa-

tion and representatives of several of the leading Auckland and Hamilton builders’ supply merchants, was ex-

tended by the president of the Hamilton Master Builders’ Association, Mr D. C. Street. The speaker stated that the function was the first occasion on which the Hamilton Sub-contractors’ Association and the Hamilton Master Builders’ Association had met in a social function. The Builders’ Association appreciated the fine gesture of the sub-contractors, which had made the function possible. Sub-Contractors’ Interests Speaking on behalf of the Hamilton Sub-contractors’ Association, the president, Mr A. Gordon, expressed pleasure at being associated with the Hamilton Master Builders’ Association at the social. Hamilton was the first place in the Dominion in which a subcontractors’ association had been formed but the speaker hoped that similar action would be taken in other centres. The need for co-operation between the allied building trades was stressed by Mr Gordon, who stated such a principle was one of the aims of the Hamilton Sub-contractors’ Association.

“ By co-operation we will protect, not only the builders, but also the public,” said Mr Gordon. “We can build a better world in our own small community by a system of co-opera-tion. In conclusion, I would wish the New Zealand Federated Builders and Contractors’ Association continued success.”

The newly-elected Dominion president of the Federated Builders’ Association. Mr V. A. Coyle (Auckland), expressed the thanks of the assembled builders for the warm welcome that had been accorded the visitors and for the entertainment that had been presented. The speaker also congratulated the Hamilton Master Builders’ Association on the wonderful strides it had made during its four years’ existence and the Hamilton Sub-contrac-tors’ Association on the rapid progress it was making. High Standard Set Mr Coyle’s remarks were endorsed by the immediate past-president of the New Zealand Association, Mr W. A. Petrie (Timaru), who stated he had attended conferences from the North Cape to the Bluff, and he was pleased with the particularly high standard that had been set in Hamilton. In conjunction with the Hamilton Master

Builders’ Association, the Sub-con-tractors’ Association would do a great deal for the building trade in the Waikato and the speaker hoped that the. two organisations would work in harmony.

The Dominion vice-president, Mr C. S. Luney (Christchurch) referred to the fine work that had been carried out by the ladies’ committee in connection with the function.
