BURNT MOTOR-CAR
OWNER BEFORE COURT CLAIM FOR INSURANCE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Wednesday The facts in relation to a motorcar which was burnt on the Rimutaka Hill were ventilated in the Police Court before Mr J. L. Stout, S.M., today when Leslie Bramwell Clifford was charged with attempting to obtain £l3O from the New Zealand Insurance Company by falsely representing he paid £175 for the car whereas he paid only £ls, and which had been represented to the police as having been stolen. The car was registered in the name of one. Leslie Wells, whom inquiries failed to reveal and accused had taken out the insurance in the name of Wells, representing he paid £175 for it. Detective-Sergeant Doyle, in outlining the facts also mentioned that accused had complained of the theft of a mot-or-cycle, insured for £4O, and on the same date. January 6, accused lodged a claim with the General Insurance Company. The cycle had not been traced. Accused was committed for sentence bail being allowed at £SO.
